Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is a single system that can provide both heating and air conditioning. In heating mode, a heat pump is much more energy efficient than a furnace, so it will save you money on utilities and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions as well.
  • What is a central air conditioner and how does it work?
A central air conditioner is an external condensing unit which sits outside your home and expels heat. This outdoor unit uses your furnace or air handler fan to draw warm air in through your home’s duct work. The air is then cooled as it passes over the evaporator coil above your furnace. This cooled air is then returned to the home through the supply air vents.
  • What is a ductless mini-split?
A ductless mini-split operates similarly to a central heating and cooling system. The ductless system takes air from the room, cools or heats it, and then returns it back into the room. It is connected to an outdoor unit which houses the compressor and the electronic controls. Multiple indoor units (or heads) can be placed in multiple rooms which can all be controlled by a single outdoor unit.
  • What is an HRV & ERV system?
HRV (heat recovery ventilation) and ERV (energy recovery ventilation) products remove dust, pollen, allergens and airborne particulates, making your indoor environment clean and healthy. These ventilators will exchange stale indoor air with fresh air without affecting the efficiency level of your Air Quality system.
